BEing a kindergarten parent
- Always keep a positive attitude toward school, even if you disagree with the teacher.
- Help your child learn HOW to learn.
- Focus on the world around you
- Let your child CREATE projects instead of filling in blanks
- Practice math facts with manipulatives (like beads or blocks)
- Read EVERY note that comes home from school. Your child should bring a backpack/book bag every day.
- Ask your child about his/her day. Don’t take “nuthin” for an answer.
- Help your child’s class as often as possible during the year.
- Teach your child BASIC skills first.
- Teach tying, zipping, and independent bathroom skills. Don’t send child to school in “difficult” clothing.
- Teach them to recognize their correct name.
- Read to your child on a regular basis. Stretch your child’s thinking with questions.
- Always make sure your child knows that they CAN succeed and that you KNOW that they can do their best.
